Barry Parr is a senior media industry analyst, editor, publisher, and marketing executive.
Barry Parr is also the editor and publisher of Coastsider, a community news site for coastal San Mateo County, and MediaSavvy, a blog about networked media. He has over twenty years experience in online and print media, marketing, research, and advertising.
He is a frequent speaker on media and Internet strategy in the US and worldwide and has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Forbes, Business Week, San Jose Mercury News, and other publications. Mr. Parr has more than fifteen years of experience building online services, including software development, marketing, editorial, and production management.
Barry is the former Director of Marketing for Chartio, a SaaS enterprise business intelligence company. He served as a Senior Analyst at Forrester Research covering media and advertising. Barry has served as Ecommerce Research Director at International Data Corporation and Vice President of News at CNET.
As Vice President of News at CNET, he co-created NEWS.COM, a technology news site which Walt Mossberg in the Wall Street Journal called “a must read for anyone who cares about technology news”. In addition, Mr. Parr was managing producer at the San Jose Mercury News, where he was a key developer of Mercury Center, the first newspaper on the Web.
Barry has an AB in Psychology from Stanford University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
